Special Election in House District 50 – In the House District 50 special election to fill the unexpired term of Representative Mark Strama (D-Austin), there will be a run-off between the lone Republican candidate РAustin chiropractor Mike VanDeWalle, and Democrat Celia Israel. The Secretary of State is only reporting the early vote; however, Travis County results show 100% of precincts reporting. Results include:
Mike VanDeWalle (R-Austin) 5,584 votes 39.51%
Celia Israel (D-Austin) 4,469 votes 31.62%
Jade Chang Sheppard (D-Austin) 2,197 votes 15.55%
Rico Reyes (D-Austin) 1,882 votes 13.32%
Governor Rick Perry will set the date for the run-off election.
